Firstly – as an extremely shy guy – I am not a loser and neither do I lack the confidence to interact with women or experience things outside of the cultural norms.
People – like Suf D-O-G-G – have said that I am similar to Raj Koothrappali (The Big Bang Theory) or that I am a selective mute or a misogynist. Certain people – mind you most are family, who are uneducated and wannabes – from villages in Pakistan – could not be far from the truth.
To be honest, I am an ambivert – a person who has a balance of extrovert and introvert features in their personality. I need to recharge after mingling with people after all I am human. However – believe it or not – I do have a phobia S.A.D – Social Anxiety Disorder.
Social Anxiety Disorder is a long-term and overwhelming fear of being observed by others or being rejected in public. I was diagnosed by this disorder during my late teenage years and believe me, it is not a joke!
I always feel anxious in social situations regardless of it being at university, at a bar, at work or even those women who are well out of my league and especially those who are single/taken or who could potentially use a shy guy like me as a scapegoat to noise up their partners.
The list below explains why I am extremely shy when it comes to interacting with women:
- Ruining a well-preserved character.
- Being shamed.
- Avoid a facial modification.
Honestly, I wish I could talk to any girl without stuttering or having a minor panic attack or without living in fear of the three points mentioned above, but the S.A.D will never go away. However, what I can do is by taking my medication on a daily basis and remain calm when in the presence of the opposite sex.
